group, the men appear to be somewhat less extensive drinkers than the women, on the whole. The largest number in both groups reported "social drinking" once or twice a week. Since the male questionnaire was modified, for purposes of easier tabulation, by supplying a check-list, while the female questionnaire had none, it is possible that the results for the women may under state the number of "heavy" drinkers compared to the "daily" drinkers.

Considerably more mon than women reported attending "gay" bars 68% compared to 51%. Since consumption of alcohol is apparently no greater among most of the men, it may be inferred that the reasons for this are social and sexual. Men may desire this form of socializing and making "contacts" more than women, or they may simply be more aware of locations, and less reluctant than women to seek out and enter bars, particularly if alone. Differences between the frequency of attendance by men and women are not great, as shown in Table 8 on page 18.

Several comments indicated that still more males would attend "gay" bars if any existed in the community.

SEXUAL LIFE
